Bright Fish
A collection of poetry by the late Lavell Ferris Baldock

Designed & Illustrated in collage by Kal Honey

Our dear friend Lavell passed away in early 2020. Her husband Frank asked me to design a book of her poetry (most written in her youth) so he could have it published as a tribute and memorial. I was deeply touched and agreed immediately. It was quite an undertaking: her poetry is quite brilliant, so it was imperative that my illustration and design both showcase and complement her work. It's finally done and published – and I’m very proud of the result. It’s my fond hope that Lavell would be pleased!

PRAISE FOR BRIGHT FISH:

Acute, vivid, perceptive, moving and often witty, Lavell Ferris Baldock’s poems are a joy to read.
– Margaret MacMillan, historian

As sharp as shattered glass, as luscious as rainbows, these poems both soothe and sting. In these gorgeous pages, you will find a trove of magical things.
– Oakland Ross, author of The Dark Virgin and Swimming with Horses

This small book of Lavell’s poems is a revelation, full of short works polished to sparkling brilliance. Do yourself a favour and buy a copy!
– Rick Blechta, award-winning author of crime fiction

Bright Fish offers a sea of quicksilver flashes into love, passion and the human condition.
– Carolyn Evans Hammond, wine writer, The Wine Find

Delicate, precise observations of the natural world alternate with the passion of her love poems. Collages and drawings enhance her text throughout. A book to treasure and to return to often.
– Dean Tudor, journalism professor emeritus, Toronto Metropolitan University
