Fridays: January 6, February 3, March 3, 2023 (First Friday of each month) $110.00 for three sessions or $45.00/session drop-in (Must be paid by 6pm the night before)
SPECIAL! The January 6 session is ONLY $25! That's 45% of the regular single-session price! (A great way to try it out!)
Max class size: 12 10am - 1pm* (*Sessions may be shorter, depending on number of participants and/or depth of conversation)
Let’s get one thing straight right off the top: Critique isn’t about criticizing your work – not with me, anyway! It’s about discussing your art: what’s already working, what’s unique and interesting about it (it’s often not what you think!) – what might need changing, depending on what you’re striving for! – and possible directions for further exploration, either within the current piece or with the pieces that follow. It’s lively, collegial artistic discussion. It’s encouragement to help you find and/or develop your own unique artistic voice. It’s finding your work’s best expressive forms and avenues. It’s suggestions of artists, work or ideas that may be relevant to your art and/or your practice.
In short: it's all the things that are so hard to generate yourself: perspective, context, and faith in your process!
Our sessions will be live on Zoom. Kal will create a constructive, safe space for participating artists to share work they’re unsure of without fear of judgement.
While these sessions are best attended live to get the maximum effect, they will be recorded and shared with participants - in case you have a tech issue, have to miss a session, or simply want to review what was said.
I don’t think there’s any artist of any value who doesn’t doubt what they’re doing. – Francis Ford Coppola
Requirements: While Kal will moderate and offer input, you will also be expected to contribute – respectfully and constructively – to discussions about the work presented by the other artists in each session.
Obviously, you’ll need to have work you’d like input on: either still-in-progress or maybe/definitely finished.
We’ll discuss at least two of your pieces – to a maximum of four – if time allows. If you only have one, we can do that, too.
You’ll need to take decently-lit, in-focus photos of the works you’re going to share, cropping out any non-art background: just like you would if you were submitting them to a juried show. You will need to email your photos to me by 6pm the night before – or if you know how to share your screen on Zoom, you can simply show us pictures from your computer or tablet when we get to you.
PAYMENT METHODS: E-transfer (aka Interac transfer) is preferred. Transfer via your online banking. Just click on button below for my email address.
Please specify this course "Critique with Kal" in your email, as well as which session date if you're purchasing an individual session. Or you can purchase with credit card or PayPal below:
