Unpacking the Masters: Learning from
Painters 11
Thursdays, February 27 - March 20, 2025
(4 classes)

10am-1pm  ET
$160.00
Live Class Limit: 15

Video-only option:
$132.00

Unpacking the Masters is a series of focussed short courses designed to demystify the ideas and methods of specific art movements. A boring drone with endless art history slides? Heck no! These courses are firmly hands-on! We’ll first analyze key works and artists for what made them tick, then try our hand at creating our own work applying similar ideas, before culminating in more opened-ended explorations to see what useful lessons we can draw out of the movement for our own work.

Painters Eleven
Toronto’s own abstract expressionists, Painters Eleven blazed the trail for non-representational work at a time when Toronto’s conservative art world was thoroughly conventional. While first received with bewilderment or anger, P11 built an understanding and appreciation for abstraction in their 7 short years, garnering critical praise in Canada and beyond. Learn more about these talented and diverse artists, and draw out lessons and inspiration to fuel your own explorations into abstraction.

As with all my courses, there will be plenty of opportunity for self expression in both the set and open exercises.

Working from the comfort of your own home/studio, you’ll connect with fellow collagers through group discussions and real-time exercises during each class, as well as working on a project on your own time between classes.
We will be on the easy-to-use Zoom online meeting platform.

The course is accompanied by a private Facebook Group where you can upload your finished or in-progress homework, plus see and comment on your fellow classmates’ work. It’s a lively, collegial safe space to share your work, and I offer comments on all work posted.

Recordings of live sessions are made available to all participants, so if you can't make the live time slot, you can watch it later.

Video-only Version: $132.00
The only difference is that you don't join us for the live Zoom class, but rather watch the video replay, which I make available to all enrolled students shortly after each class.  You're able to join the private Facebook group (for sharing, support and feedback with/from your fellow students as well as me) and you can email me one or two questions a week to be addressed during class if desired.

Cost: $160 for 4 live classes,
$132 for video-only version

Your completed payment secures your spot.
